Chirality

September 20–November 2, 2025

Opening reception Saturday, September 20, 2025, 3–5 PM

TURLEY is pleased to present Chirality, Liu Kincheloe’s first solo exhibition with the gallery since her representation. Chirality explores reflection and mirroring of the self and image, and Chiron, a bridge between polarities. Kincheloe’s paintings navigate a spectrum of information versus noise and play with transformation within the novelty of irreproducibility. Drawing inspiration from mythology, shamanism, esoteric Taoism, complexity theory, and emergent relationships, the works reflect the symbolic role of ornament and pattern. Mixing formal vocabularies with enigmatic forms that emerge from mirrored symmetry, each piece provides an avenue to disrupt fixed reading, through which the act of painting becomes a personal sanctuary for presence, reflection, and recognition.

My paintings are visual mandalas that explore interconnection, where forms co-create each other on the same visual plane. I weave together dense symmetrical patterns using symbols and forms from diverse contexts, looking for novelty and celebrating the interplay of pareidolia and humor. This approach references an animist worldview, where everything is imbued with consciousness and acts simultaneously. Within these compositions, you'll find a vocabulary of forms—from sacred objects and mythical figures to personified nature and references to meditation, sensuality, and energy work. I also incorporate elements from the visual culture of my childhood. The density of these works reflects the concept of the porous mind—the recognition of our consciousness's permeability and the understanding that we are deeply embedded in a larger web of consciousness, not just a solitary figure. My process also embraces concepts of recursion, mutation, and the evidence of the human hand in painting.
